Soviet Uniforms and Field Gear
of the early to mid-1930's |
Soviet Military Uniforms The 1930's saw the Workers and Peasants Red Army continue wearing the uniforms adopted in the early twenties - the 'French' pattern. Ranks in the traditional sense still did not exist. It was only in the mid-thirties that the army decide to introduce some form of identifying markings on the uniforms so that leaders could be better distinguished. This came about in the 1935 new regulations which brought about changes in the uniforms for the leadership class (Commanders and Senior Commanders). Sleeve chevrons were introduced along with other new insignia. New field gear was also introduced during this period, as would naturally occur in times of technological advancement. River crossing suits, improved optics, and other equipment soon found its way into the inventories of the Red Army. |
