Photographs of the I-16
Fighter
This section is dedicated to pictures of of the I-16 fighter plane. The picture here is authentic and was taken at the time the aircraft was in service. We will put descriptions with as many of the pictures as we can so that a greater understanding of the I-16 can be gained. As with many things on this site, we have very few pictures to show here, but more will be added as we acquire them. |

This radiophoto from World Wide Radiophoto was transmitted from Moscow to New York on August 6, 1941. It shows a pair of I-16 fighters rushing off to engage the German invaders. |
Some German soldiers inspect a wrecked I-16 during their invasion of Russia. Many aircraft suffered a similar fate as they were either destroyed on the ground or shot down by the Luftwaffe.
|
Here is another photograph of an abandoned I-16 taken by a German soldier during the opening phases of Operation Barbarossa. The aircraft has little outward signs of damage. No location or precise date was given on this period photograph.
