The TD-2 Container

In this picture you can see the paperboard container of the TD-2.  This was usually stored inside a small oval shaped metal container that fit in the side pocket of the BN gas mask bag.

The package is sealed by thin brown adhesive paper with a string embedded in it.  To open the kit, one simply pulls on the string so that it tears the paper open.

The title written in large bold letters means "anti-chemical packet."

Below this is the units serial number and writing that (loosely translated) states:

"Open the package.  Read instructions for use"

The kit was manufactured on April 10th, 1938.

Opening the TD-2

This picture shows the arrangement of the contents of the TD-2 kit when it is first opened.  A sheet of instructions can be seen glued to the lid of the box.

To the left are six gauze wrapped containers lying under the quality control section paper.  Hidden below these is a small metal blade wrapped in wax paper.

On the right are three capsules containing more decontaminating solution.  These are lying on a small piece of gauze.

TD-2 Contents

Here you can see the full contents of the TD-2 decontamination kit.  The small metal blade mentioned earlier can be seen to the left of the main box.

The items on the lower half of the picture are (from left to right): six gauze wrapped decontamination solution capsules for use against blister agents (H, HD), three capsules for protection against eye irritant agents (CS, Chlorine), and a two gauze pads for treating the eyes.

The Small Blade

This small metal blade was included in the TD-2 kit to assist the user in opening the small containers of solution.

It is really not very sharp, and doesn't even have an edge along the side.  Still, the point at the end is more than sufficient for opening stubborn containers of solution.

The blade is wrapped in wax paper to protect it from moisture and corrosion.

The Decontaminating Agents

The picture at right shows the six gauze wrapped decontamination capsules.  These are filled with a liquid that helps to neutralize the effects of chemical weapons on the user.  The gauze pads are included so that the user can swab the solution on his clothing and equipment.

To the left you can see the three capsules containing anti-irritant powder.  This was spread over the eyes by means of the roll of gauze packaged with them.

TD-2 Instruction Sheet

A single double sided instruction sheet is attached to the top of the lid of the TD-2.  Both the front and the back of this sheet have been photographed here.
