This section has many high detail pictures of the SVT-40 semi-automatic rifle. Virtually every section of the weapon has been photographed and described. To go to a specific part of the weapon simply click on the desired section below. Some of these pages may take a little while to load.
The SVT-40 is equipped with conventional iron sights. The front site is a standard hooded post site similar to those found on Mosin-Nagant series rifles. The rear site is a tangent site that can be adjusted out to the optimistic range of 1500 meters. The top-right picture shows what it is like to look through the sights of the SVT-40 rifle. Below that you can see a close up of the front site. The two photographs at the bottom show the rear tangent site. The one below shows a general picture of the site, while the one at the bottom right shows a close up of its range markings.

Perhaps the most distinctive feature of the SVT-40 is its muzzle brake and ventilated sheet metal forend. The tope two pictures show the unique front end of the rifle. The bottom left photo shows one of the two types of muzzle brake. The six port version shown below was the conventional version, but a large two port version common on AVT-40 rifles was used as well. In the bottom right picture you can see the bayonet mount. Like many rifles, the cleaning rod runs through it. The 'L' shaped button on the mounting is the release lever. When pressed the rifleman is able to remove the bayonet. |

The Receiver Here we have photographs of the receiver of the SVT-40. The upper photos show the left and right sides of the weapon. While the photo to the right shows catch that releases the trigger assembly at the rear of the receiver. The scope rails can also be seen running along the side of the receiver. The photo below shows the receiver with the bolt forward, and to the rear. The stripper clip guides can be clearly seen in these pictures. |
