The Medal for the defense of Sevastopol was awarded to all servicemen and civilians who took a direct part in the defense of the vital port city of Sevastopol. Even though the city was ultimately taken by the Germans, the siege had lasted many months, slowing German progress. In the end, thousands of the defenders were awarded this medal for their courage, valor, and heroism displayed in the battles for the city.

 

Defense of Sevastopol Ribbon

This ribbon was awarded with the medal, and was worn when the full medal was not authorized (such as on off-duty uniforms).

The Medal for the defense of Kiev was awarded to all servicemen and civilians who took a direct part in the defense of the vital city of Kiev.  It was also awarded to partisan fighters in the Kiev region.
