The M-1945 Navy Dirk
in Pictures

This section has many high detail pictures of the M-1945 Navy Dirk that we have in our collection.  Virtually every part of the weapon and scabbard is photographed and described.  To go to a specific part of the weapon simply click on the desired section below. I should warn you that this pages can take some time to load due to its high graphics content.

The Blade

In these photos you can see the blade of the weapon from various angles.  As can be expected from a ceremonial weapon the blade is made of a very shiny steel that looks quite nice when polished.

You can also see the button and latch that locks the dirk into its scabbard in the top right and bottom left photographs.

Close-ups of Markings

This section shows the markings that can be found on either side of the blade.  The picture on the left shows the serial number of the weapon, along with the button and latch that lock the blade within the scabbard.  The markings on the lower right picture show the maker's mark and the date of manufacture.

Other Features

At the base of the weapon there are few markings.  One is the state seal of the Soviet Union that can be seen at the bottom left.  The other mark is a five pointed star on the end of the weapon.  This is a screw fastener that holds the weapon together.

The Scabbard

Here are a few detail pictures of the scabbard of the M1945 Navy Dirk.  These two pictures on the right show both sides of the scabbard as well as the rings that fasten it to the belt.  The bottom picture shows the brass end cap of the scabbard.

Scabbard Close Ups

These photographs show close ups of the images shown above.  Below you will see the anchor engraved on one side of the scabbard, while an old sailing ship can be seen on the reverse side.

The upper right picture shows what it looks like to looking down into the scabbard.  Here you can see the where the retaining latch slides in and locks the blade into place.
