Bolt Assembly

The bolt of the SKS is made up of eight parts that were serial numbered to the receiver in Cryllic letters and Arabic numbers.

The bolt body is a solid milled rectangular object, it like most parts of the bolt assembly can be found with a large number of inspector markings.

The stripper clip guide is milled into the bolt assembly.

Sight Assembly

The two pictures to the right are of the front and rear sights of the weapon.  The front sight is very similar to the sights of the Mosin-Nagant and Kalashnikov rifles.  The rear sight is marked in 100 meter increments out to 1000 meters.

The picture below shows what it looks to aim in at something with the SKS carbine.

The Bayonet Assembly

The integral blade bayonet that is used on the SKS Carbine has a similar mechanism to the Mosin-Nagant  Model 44 Carbine.  Unlike the Model 44, the SKS uses a blade bayonet.

This bayonet was also used on all foreign versions of the SKS.  The Chinese used this bayonet until they switched to the cruciform spike bayonet in the mid 1960's.

SKS Accessories

The SKS-45 was issued with two ammunition pouches that each held 40 rounds of 7.62x39mm ammunition on four stamped metal stripper clips.  These strippers and the pouch can be seen in the picture on the top right.

The rifle also has a cleaning kit that fits in a capsule that is stored in the butt stock of the weapon.  This kit comes with a bore brush and other tools for removing carbon from the weapon.

Also shown in the picture is a common oil bottle used with the SKS.  This one has the markings of the Izhevsk factory, others were not marked.  Chinese SKS rifles have green plastic oil bottles.
