Medal for 15 years of Irreproachable Service in the Armed Forces of the USSR |
This medal was awarded to all officers and enlisted men who had fifteen years of good service. These long service medals were given in place of the the Order of the Red Star, which was originally granted for long service as well as for heroic deeds. The creation of this award allowed the state to recognize the dedication of an individual while reserving the Order of the Red Star for acts of gallantry and valor. There were also different variations of this medal given members of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MVD), and to the members of the KGB. The small ribbon was introduced with the medal and was initially worn on officer parade uniforms. Later it would be authorized to be worn on other uniforms. | ||||||
