KLMK Camouflage Suit -
As stated above, the KLMK one-piece coveralls were one of the last one-piece camouflage uniforms to be issued by the Soviet army. They were first produced between 1968-1969. The uniform consists of a cream/white color pattern over a light green base and was designed to be worn over regular field uniforms. Due to its colors it served as both winter and summer coveralls. The 'sun ray' pattern as it was known amongst soldiers for its similarity to sunlight passing through leaves of a forest, can also be reversed for use in snowy terrain.
The non-detachable hood can fully cover the helmet, and cloth ties on the inside of the hood make it much easier to adjust to the individual wearer. It usually comes with a face mask for added concealment. It has the same number of scrim tabs as earlier versions of the uniform, and they are in the same locations. The color splotches vary in separation from one suit to the next. The buttons are the same as in earlier models, but the middle button is not covered for |
some reason. The sleeves and cuffs are secured by elastic or drawstrings. A large flap in the rear of the suit, secured by buttons, enables the wearer to relieve himself in the field without removing the suit.
In addition to being used by snipers, this uniform was also issued to airborne units, KGB border guards, reconnaissance, engineer units (sappers and minelayers), and GRU spetsnaz. It was used in the late 1990's with trainees, reservists, and Cossack units in Moldova.
