M-1969 General's Summer
Everyday Uniform (Out of Column) |

It should be noted that normally the uniform would be worn with a high ranking military school badge on his right side, and his ribbons worn on his left side. These will be added in future photographs. His trousers are olive green with wide red stripes running along each side. Brown shoes would complete the uniform, but were unavailable at the time of the photography session. His visor cap is complete with the proper embroidery and cockade of a general-grade officer of motor rifles during this period. The visor is composed of painted cardboard, not the plastic of later period officer headgear. Additionally, the buttons on the sides of the cap also feature the Soviet state seal.

More about the uniform... Generals uniforms were also changed during the 1969 reforms. They were modernized and continued to represent a more refined version of the regular officer's patterns. Major differences with officer versions were the use of different buttons, embroidery, and higher quality fabrics. |

Service Chronology
The M-1969 General's summer everyday (out of column) uniform was a modern evolution of the officer uniforms of the 1950's. It presented a modern military appearance that embodied everything that the army of the 1970's wanted to be. The uniform was worn even after the fall of the Soviet Union, until the Russian Federation reforms of 1994 replaced it with a truly Russian, rather than Soviet style.
