Ballistic Missile Submarine in pictures

This section is dedicated to pictures of the 'Hotel' class submarine.  The picture here is authentic and was taken at some time when the submarine was in active service.  This picture was taken by the United States Navy during the Cold War.  Hopefully some Soviet pictures will be made available soon for us to display.

The 'K-19' in distress

This is a picture of the Hotel class submarine 'K-19' taken by a U.S. Navy P-3 'Orion' patrol aircraft on 25 February 1972.  The boat is apparantly disabled and floating on the surface in rough seas.  It was located about 600 miles northeast of Newfoundland.  Two Soviet ships were in the immediate area when this photograph was taken, they were the tanker 'Liepaya' and the fish factory ship 'Ivan Chigrin'.  Shortly after this picture was taken the U.S. Coast Guard dispatched the cutter 'Boutwell' to the area to give assistance.
