This Afghan issue medal was awarded by the Afghan government to Soviet soldiers for outstanding military service in Afghanistan. The wording on the back says "From Grateful Afghan People" and something similar in Farsi.

This ribbon was awarded with the above medal and was worn on many service uniforms when medals are not authorized to be worn.

The two pictures below show the small award booklet that was issued with the medal. It is written in Cyrillic and Arabic/Farsi. This example was not issued, nor have I seen any that have been.  The first picture shows the front cover of the document, while the second shows the interior of the document.

Also known as the 'Handshake medal' this decoration was awarded for outstanding military service in Afghanistan and other nations.

To the right is the award document for the Soldier-Internationalist medal. Like all other examples I have seen this one is un-issued.
