More about the uniform... The uniform presented here was part of the 1980's drive to issue a series of light, comfortable uniforms that retained a professional military appearance. The officer summer each day uniform was given the option of using short sleeve green shirt in environments where the temperature exceeded 20° Celsius (68° Fahrenheit). Unlike most shirt sleeve uniforms, the green tie and brass tie clasp are not authorized for wear with this uniform. The trousers are conventional straight leg slacks with red piping down the sides denoting officer status. No medals or badges were authorized for wear on the shirtsleeve uniforms. |
Service Chronology The M-1988 summer officer each day uniform in short sleeve green shirt was quite different from other Soviet uniforms of the day, as it allowed the unit commander to determine if the uniform of the day was to have long or short sleeves. For the first time it gave options regarding military fashion. This uniform had a short service history (about six years) spanning the final years of the USSR and the early years of the Russian Federation. It was developed as a new uniform and replaced nothing in particular. The uniform was withdrawn from service following the new 1994 Russian Federation uniform regulations which eliminated all previous Soviet designs. |
