The Era of Reconstruction Weapons Systems (1946-1959) |
The post-war period was a time of intense modernization.
Many new weapons were developed in the fifteen years following the
Great Patriotic War, although for a while many were still retained
in large numbers. The PPSh and PTRS/PTRD were in the inventory
for over a decade following the war, simply due to their large
production numbers. Others were phased out of service fairly
rapidly, having been found to be obsolete during the war. Here we have several weapons to display, some dating from far before the period. Newer weapons developed during this period are in the first column, while older weapons remaining in service are found in the second column. Each is accompanied by photographs, technical specifications, and a full description of the weapon. We have tried to focus of the history of each weapon's development, its capabilities and limitations, and where they have been used in combat. The various types of ammunition used with each weapon are also listed and described. |
