More about the uniform...

The summer work uniform of the 1969 regulations was little different from its predecessor.  Its most obvious change was on the pullover tunic; which did away with the placket and buttons at the base of the neckline.  The two buttons that remained there would be used for attaching the neckerchief.  Its color was similar to the grey of its predecessor.  Short shoulderboards in either light blue (for naval aviation) or black (for general naval personnel) are worn with this uniform.

It also retained the wearing of the peakless bezkozirka cap with a band identifying the fleet that the sailor is a part of.  The M-1969 enlisted cockade is affixed to the front of the cap above the band.  White caps were typically authorized for wear with this uniform although photographs have shown black ones worn with the uniform as well.

The trousers of the uniform were of the same grey color.  They were fastened by means of internal buttons.  Two hip pockets are also provided for holding small objects.  Our examples show that both the tunic and trousers were made in the Tutaev Sewing Factory in 1991.

Service Chronology (1) (2) (3) (4) (5)

The summer sailor’s work uniform of 1969 was a slight modification of the M-1958 work uniform.  It removed the tunic’s placket and buttons in favor of a somewhat simpler design though the color remained the same. After 1974 minor changes were made to the uniform, eventually requiring a new design specification as seen in our example: Ty RSFSR 01-784-82.  This indicates some minor pattern change was made in 1982.  Though the uniform was replaced in 1989 with a new dark blue pattern, the grey 1969 fabric continued to be used at least up until 1991 (as shown by our example).
