The Soldier is Wearing:
The soldier in this picture represents a typical Soviet engineer of the early 1970's.  He is wearing the standard uniform and side cap (piloitka) typical for everyday duties at the base where he was assigned.

In this picture you can also see that he wears the Komsomol badge and a first class Soldier-Sportsman badge.

Service Chronology

When the M-1969 enlisted field uniform entered service it replaced the iconic uniforms of the Patriotic War.  It proved to be very popular and quickly became the symbol of the Soviet soldier during the latter half of the Cold War.  The uniform had a long service life and was still used in garrison even after it was replaced as a field uniform.  In this section you will be able to learn more about the uniforms that preceded and followed it.  You will also be able to read more about these uniforms when as they are  obtained and added to the website.
