The Officer is Wearing: The 1969 pattern officer parade visor cap with the air force wing and star device. Its visor would have been made of painted cardboard in the early periods, but would later be made of plastic. A single line of light blue piping can be found around the outer brim of the cap. His "wave blue" colored parade jacket adorned with an officer qualification badge and a short ribbon bar. Under this can be seen the white shirt and tie of the period. Junior officer rank boards of blue and gold show the rank of lieutenant, while the blue collar tabs show that his field is aviation. The cuffs feature a single line of light blue piping. A pair of matching "wave blue" trousers with a single line of light blue piping running down each leg. Black shoes complete the uniform.

More about the uniform... This uniform was authorized in the sweeping changes of the late 1960's. It was worn by officers, warrant officers, and soldiers who re-enlisted in the aviation or paratrooper field after their initial time of conscription. It was worn on parade/holiday occasions by officers in garrison who were not in a formation (such as working in an office or when going about the base while off duty). |

Service Chronology The air force officer's M-1969 summer parade-walking out uniform replaced the uniform designs of the late 1950's. It brought a modern design element into being that kept the uniform looking current well into the early 1990's. It was eventually replaced during the 1994 uniform regulations under Boris Yeltsin.
