This section is dedicated to pictures of the 'Kilo' Class attack submarine. The pictures are the property of the Foundation and were all taken at some time when the submarine was in active service. More photos will be added as they are acquired by the Foundation.
A 'Kilo' in the Pacific In this picture you can see a 'Kilo' class submarine as it cruises the Pacific Ocean. It was part of a small group of vessels - a Petya II, a Yurka, and another Kilo submarine which can be seen on the following page. The photo was taken by the US Navy on 14 June 1984.. |
A Kilo Class Submarine in port This photo of submarine B-871 was taken at Sevastopol sometime in the 2001. Several details such as the flags and rear hatch can be easily seen in this photo. |
A motor launch and a 'Kilo' Perhaps this picture will help give an idea of the size of the submarine. It is not large as submarines go, but it is still large enough to dwarf the motor launch (called an AC 52) that is pulling along side it. Note the large white circle at the bow, that is an emergency docking hatch for divers in case the submarine sinks. This picture was taken by the US Navy on 25 October 1983. |
Side profile of the B-871 This is another view of submarine B-871 taken as the camera passes it. This photo was part of the same set at the photo above. |
