Class Submarine in Pictures

This section is dedicated to additional pictures of the 'Kilo' class / Project 877 attack submarine.  The pictures are the property of the Foundation and were all taken at some time when the submarine was in active service.  All of the black and white pictures on this page were taken by the US Navy during the Cold War.  The color pictures were taken by a Russian photographer.

Looking down on a Kilo

In this picture you can see the deck details of the 'Kilo'.  Many small hatches can be seen, as can the rear emergency escape hatch.  This picture was taken in the Pacific Ocean by the US Navy on 12 June 1984.

A 'Kilo' Underway

Here is a good photograph of the starboard side of a 'Kilo' submarine.  It was taken by the US Navy on 22 June 1989, but does not list a location.

A Kilo cruising into port

Here is a good color side view of a Kilo moving into its port near Murmansk.  The picture was taken in the year 2000.

A 'Kilo' in the Pacific

This 'Kilo' class submarine was photographed in the Pacific by the US Navy on 14 June 1984.  It was part of a small group of vessels traveling together - a Petya II, a Yurka, and another Kilo.  The other Kilo in the group can be seen at the top of the preceding page.  Unlike the other Kilo, this one has a strange row of white squares running along the base of the tower.
