Medal for Victory over Japan

Established - September 30, 1945
Composition - Brass
Number Awarded - 1,818,000

  This medal was given to all servicemen of the armed Army, Navy, and MVD who took part in action against the Imperial Japanese in 1945 while in the ranks of the 1st and 2nd Far East, the Transbaikal fronts, Pacific Ocean Navy, or Amur River Flotilla.

  This medal was also awarded to officers and men of the Mongolian People's Army as well as Soviet soldiers.

Victory over Germany Ribbon

This ribbon was awarded with the medal, and was worn when the full medal was not authorized (such as on off-duty uniforms). 

 

 

Medal for Valiant Labor Effort
During the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945

Brass

Number Awarded -

Over 16,000,000

The Medal for Valiant Labor Effort was awarded to civilians who devoted their efforts to the achievement of victory. This included workers in the factories who built the plains, tanks, and rifles, and the farmers who made sure there was enough food for the soldiers. Without their efforts victory could not have been achieved.

Partisan Medal (1st Class)

 
Established - February 2, 1943
Composition - Silver
Number Awarded - 57,000

The Partisan Medal 1st Class was awarded to partisan fighters, leaders of partisan detachments, and organizers of the partisan movement during the Great Patriotic war for courage in the struggle to liberate the Soviet Union from behind the lines of the German invaders.

The award book for the partisan medal is shown in the picture to the right.  They were originally presented with a temporary certificate, but in 1948 this was changed to a regular award book.  This medal was awarded to in 1965 for efforts during the war.

 

 

Motherhood Medal (1st Class)

 

Established - July 8, 1944
Composition - Silver, Bronze, and enamel
Number Awarded - 4,000,000

The First Class Motherhood Medal was awarded to those women who raised six or more children.  Mothers who adopted children, or who had lost children who were fighting in the defense of the Soviet Union, or who had lost children who were saving lives (firemen, police, etc) could also be eligible for this award.  No ribbon was ever issued with this award.

 

 

 

Motherhood Medal (2nd Class)

 

Established - July 8, 1944
Composition - Bronze and enamel
Number Awarded - 8,000,000

The Second Class Motherhood Medal was awarded to those women who raised five or more children.  Mothers who adopted children, or who had lost children who were fighting in the defense of the Soviet Union, or who had lost children who were saving lives (firemen, police, etc) could also be eligible for this award.  No ribbon was ever issued with this award.
